Someone else will have to comment on whether it's a good option with a TPI motor - but I installed a S-10 converter behind my carbed 350. It was cheap from gmpartsdirect.com, and stalls at about 2100 rather than the 1300 stock from my RS.

I'd go no higher then a 2100 stall for your application, TPI's make their power at fairly low RPM's so 2100 will get you a much better jump then stock. as for what one to get thats up to you, your trans shop should be able to get one for you, if not just call someone like jegs or summit and tell them your application. they carry TCI converters which are good quality.. oh and make sure its a lockup converter too, since its your daily driver you'll want to stay with the extra fuel mileage.
