ST-10 Shifter

the Shifter on my Super T-10 is almost completely gone, I know Hurst sells a replacement, I just don't know which one to get. summit doesn't even say the ST-10 came in the 82 F-bodies.

a simple part number would be great but, I would like to know how much to get? the linkage, mechanism, shifter, bracket. will my stock shifter "rod?" and ball still fit?

Re: ST-10 Shifter

The 2004 Hurst catalog lists the shifter as part # 391 7960 and the installation kit as part # 373 0021. Check out page 13 in the link below:
http://loco4fomoco.com/HURST.pdf
or here:
http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/manual_shifters.pdf

But the shifter is not listed in the 2009 catalog:
http://www.hurst-shifters.com/hurst-...atalog_web.pdf
So it may have been discontinued, or there may be limited stock.
Good luck.

Re: ST-10 Shifter

how much modding would have to be done to fit a 81 Hurst ST-10 shifter? I already took the torque arm off the tranny

Re: ST-10 Shifter

I would try to get the correct shifter and install kit, even if you have relocated the torque arm. Make sure you have a trans from an 82, one that originally had a torque arm mounted to it. (check the transmission ID charts in the hurst catalog if you are not sure)

peformanceparts.com shows that they have the shifter and install kit for an 82 with a ST-10 in-stock.
http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=178832
http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=179301
I don't know anything about performanceparts.com and I don't know how up-to-date their site is, but it is definately worth a try.

I think an 81 would be different. The tailhousing looks to be different and the shifter stick is definately different. Doesn't the 81 shifter mount farther forward in the car? (look at an 81 manual console)

If you have an 82 trans, and you can't get the correct install kit, then the next thing to do would be to call Hurst tech-support. Find out if there is anything else that would work. Not needing the torque arm mount might be a help.

You might have to put something together using service parts.
It appears that the shifter, 391 7960, is still listed in the catalog. It is used on 63-67 corvettes also.
The mounting kit, 373 0021, might not be available anymore. It is listed on page 28 of the 2009 catalog in the service parts section. To the right, is a list of the part #s for the mounting plate, the arms, and the rods, that make up that mounting kit. You'd have to get all of the other parts too. (the bushings, clips, etc.) So if you can still get the service parts, you could probably put a mounting kit together yourself.

Let us know how you make out.

The shifter has become so bad I can no longer drive the car I had to park it on the side of the house because its to dangerous to drive!!!! and summers almost over GRRR!!! I don't know why I decided to post this as I have no new info I am hoping someone knows what I can do short of replacing my Tranny

PLEASE help.. I miss my Camaro, the 'birds just not the same (its a V6)

Re: ST-10 Shifter

You can't use any 81 stuff except the shifter body maybe. I doubt it but I won't swear that it won't work, you might get lucky but don't bet on it.

Get the right "install kit". That's the handle, the brackets, and the linkage. The 81 stuff will ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY not work.

Don't bother with what Summit "says". Go to www.mrgasket.com, click on Hurst, read the catalog, go back to Summit, type in the numbers. Last I knew it was all still available but we all know how that goes, it's been a couple of years since I last looked it up. If it's not in the catalog or not listed on Summit's site, a phone call or e-mail to Hurst is in order.

If your transmission is NOT from 82, for example if it's a 81, it WILL NOT work without doing something aftermarket or fabricated for the torque arm. Although it sounds like maybe you've already handled that.

BTW, DO NOT buy a Mr Gasket shifter even if it's available. It is a steaming bucket of s**t except they don't give you a bucket. You will hate it and it will probably destroy your transmission. Buy ONLY a Hurst.

Re: ST-10 Shifter

the shifter is not the problem they still sell that. It is the installation kit that they have discontinued. I have call every shop and online store that said they had it and they were all gone
