Hi all, I have a 91 Firebird with a 350 TPI. This car was originally a 305 TBI. The gear ratio is still the stock 273. I would like to go with a lower gear like a 342 or so. I was also told that a 342 may be too low for that car since it is an automatic. I need advice on which gear would be best for this car. I dont want to go too low with a ratio, but i definaltely want something better than these stock 273's! What is recommended?
cant complain about mine 323 squeals the tires into 2nd

3.42 would work fine

The 3;42 would be a descent ratio, altho my 87 GTA 5.7 TPI 700r4 has a SLP 3;70 gear and I feel it's good. @ 2,000 rpm / 62 mph (thats not bad at all) and still get 24mpg on the highway. mine orig had the stock 3:27 gear.

By the way the 3:42 gear, you"ll never feel its to low! neither the 3:70 or 3:73. depends what r end you have(10 bolt or 9 bolt) if its a 10 bolt it"ll take the 3:73
