Clutch slave is mounted to the bellhousing, and has a pushrod that moves the clutch fork in the side of the bellhousing.

Brake slaves are your wheel cylinders and/or calipers.

Re: T5 clutch slave cylinder bleeding

Gotta love the internet. I just changed the slave cylinder on my car and still couldn't get it to shift into gear with the clutch pedal in...but I bled it like you bleed a brake caliper...
Guess I'll be spending some more time under her tomorrow.

As for the stock shifter..it isn't bad...I swapped mine for a Hurst billet pro..I can run her from 1st to 4th without taking my elbow off the arm rest now..
Gotta love short throw shifters.

The shifter of choice was the T5 pro 5.0 back in the day, nice short throw with stops.

I built a clone to save a few pennies, copying the hight n shape moddin a stock shifter and it worked out great.

Re: T5 clutch slave cylinder bleeding

Well..after my new slave cylinder springing a leak my parts guy ordered one for a firechicken..it's aluminum. I installed it but didn't bolt it to the bell housing. I let it hang by the line, filled the reservoir to the top, cracked the bleed screw and when the brake fluid starting running out I closed it.

I bolted it up and tried the tranny..still wouldn't shift.
I was convinced this wasn't a slave cylinder problem.
I had my brother come over to take a look. Fresh pair of eyes, heavy equipment mechanic, couldn't hurt.
He discovered my clutch pedal wasn't going all the way down. It didn't feel any different to me but he said it should have more travel.
We started checking everything and discovered the pivot ball had backed out of the bell housing approx an 1/8 of an inch. He screwed it back in so it was flush with the bell housing and my problem vanished.

It also confirmed that my method of bleeding the slave cylinder worked.

There is no difference between an Aro or Bird trans.

Ya..we both knew that but one of his books had a different # for the bird..he crossed referenced it and it worked for the Camaro.
The plastic ones are made in Mexico..the aluminum ones in China...
