i was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the clam shell mount for the torque arm when converting from an automatic transmission to a manual t5.when i got everything installed and went to install the torque arm mount on the tranny it doesnt line up with the bolt holes on the tranny.the car its going in is an 88 camaro.the tranny came out of an 86 camaro.and if i need to buy a new mount where could i get one?i called and went to several parts stores and they dont have a listing....part number anyone?

Yes, the T5 torque arm mount if different from the 700R4 one. Won't interchange.

Re: t5 conversion

I have a problem with stalling after the swap. I have done so many things to try and fix this problem. I have read somewhere that there is a speed sensor that needs to be changed as well so the computer knows when your slowing down to a stop. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated, other then that the car runs mint. I have a chip burned for the conversion as well. Thanks again

A good source for digging up a T5 T/A mount cheap is any T5 equipped, V6 3rd gen. V6 3rd gens are common as dirt in the junkyards, and the mount will work with a V8. You just have to make sure the "lips" on the end of your torque arm face the same way as the cutouts in the T5 bushing. If not, you can either buy a poly mount from Energy Suspension that has them oriented the right direction, or just grab the torque arm from the junkyard car and use it in place of your original torque arm. Hey Severedsanity, did you have your custom chip setup for the manual trans? In the prom chip there's a selection flag that you set to either auto or manual. When it's set for a manual trans, the ecm knows to compensate the idle speed when you push in the clutch and start slowing down.

Re: t5 conversion

On my last T5 conversion I didn't have the right clam shell. I had to cut, modify, and reweld the automatic's mount to fit the T5. It ended up working out great and only took about an hour.

Re: t5 conversion

When I did my T5 conversion a number of years ago, the torque arm mounts on my 88 Formula and my friends 88 GTA were the same ( We swapped transmissions).

Re: t5 conversion

Impossible, the 2 don't interchange without mods. The 700 uses a stud and 2 through bolts, the T5 upper bolt threads into the transmission itself.

automatic right, t5 left:

my bad,
it was the crossmember and trans mount that happened to be the same on the 2 cars. I just checked one of my old threads.
