What is the downfall (if any) (or benefit) of having a fluid with Limited Slip Additive in an open diff? I searched but couldn't find much.
I am using this from Royal Purple. Which has a Limited Slip Additive in it. Let me know. Thanks.

its just add more protection because you use a quality synthetic fluid, my choice of gear oil is redline 75w90,

How do you guys clean the inside of your diff. I was wondering if there is something I can spray at the gears and such to clean it a bit without removing it. I am going to be installing my new Moser Diff Cover and RP Fluid, but would like to clean it up if I can without having to disassemble more than the diff cover. If nothing then Ill just replace the cover and gasket and put in the new fluid.

Limited slip additive is a friction modifier, it allows some slipapge in wet clutch pack systems so the clutches don't chatter, or hammer as some call it. That's all. No posi? Don't need it!

Re: rear diff cover magnet. and do I have pos pix inside
Just did some work to my Diff a few days ago. Used 2 cans of non-chlorinated brake cleaner and got as much of the old oil and what not out of it as possible. Since I changed my outer axle bearings so I sprayed down the tubes and packed/shoved a rag down them also to clear out everything.
As stated, no posi = no need for slip additive, you are just wasting your money.

If you do spray it out with brake cleaner you better let it sit with the cover off of it for about a day or more so that all of the brake cleaner evaproates. If any brake cleaner is left in the rear end it will cause a chain reaction break down of the oil and then you will have big trouble. The brake cleaner will get in the space between the pinion bearings and it may not evaporate. There is no way to clean out this area without disassembling the rear end.

Very true! Mine was all done completely disassembled. even though it looked dry I was still able to wipe and shake residue out of the bearings.
