Hey guys I'm new to this Form and new to owning a 3rd gen Trans am. I have a 1984 Trans am L69 305 5 speed, rear disc, I just bought a 9 bolt Borgwarner rear end for the car should just bolt up from what I read because I bought the car with the rear end blew out. picked it up for $500 bucks. soo my question is I need gear lube for the transmission so I have been reading up. Im pretty sure its a NWC cause of the year of the car... I also need lube for the Brog warner 9 bolt Rear end... How many quarts should I need for both My guess was 5 to 6 quarts any one really know for sure whould be great save me the trips to the car parts place...

You will probably be fine with 2 1-quart bottles for the rear end. As for the trans, check into it a bit deeper - some years used gear lube like the rear end, some used ATF. You should find out which one you need. Though 3 1-qt bottles should be fine for the trans. Just find out what fluid you actually need.

Welcome to TGO. Try the T-5 sticky at the top of the page for some amusing, if not confusing, info on what lube the trans requires.
