Slave cylinder revisited

I have a question about Russell fittings that Built91z28 suggested I use on my 1984-92 clutch slave cylinder. These fittings do NOT work! Are the cast slave cylinders different from the composite ones? I have a composite (plastic) cylinder. The fitting does not go in all the way. And the slot (on the fitting) doesn't line up with the expansion pin. What am I missing here?

Did you put any oil or brake fluid on the O-ring? If not I would try that. The fitting went in my master with no problem. I did have to push a little though for that last little bit. I dont have a slave so I cant comment on that.

Yes, I put a dab of brake fluid on it. I got an idea while typing this (in fact, I fixed the problem within the past 20 minutes). Notice the end of the fitting is a little larger on the end? It has a lip. Well I ground the lip flush with the upper portion (covered by the o-ring) and it fits perfectly. With the rubber o-ring, I doubt it'll leak, but time will tell. The fitting does turn with rollpin in place. Should this be a cause for concern? I still have the spare fitting just in case it does leak. Of course, that means I won't be able to use this slave cylinder either.

Yeah the turning is normal. The O-ring seals it, not pressure as if bolted solid. Glad you got it figured out. I would have hated for you to buy something that didnt work and have just wasted $20+
