i was under the car for other reasons, and noticed that my driveshaft, 3.5" aluminum, managed to hit the parking brake bracket on the side of the tunnel at some point recently. Put a nice groove in the shaft and im a little leery of keeping it in the car.

however, i have almost 3/8" if not more clearance to the mount, im a little confused how the axle would move that much to hit? the panhard is built with rod ends, so do bushing deflection.

I did just raise the car in the rear a little, but the axle is centered? Probably going to go back to a 3" shaft, not real reason for this big aluminum one anymore.

 

Interestingly enough, I used to often see and/or sell the so-called 1LE shaft, which is smaller than the one you mention, and many of them were scratched/grooved around the shaft. I too assumed the parking brakes was somehow involved.
