I got a 1992 700r4 Trany from a yukon

Hey yal,

I just purchased a early 1990's 700r4 Trany from a Blazer/Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban Chevy truck, It has an magnetic type Speed Sensor, part #08673299. My question is this. How can I get it to work in my 1986 4bbl Trans Am and utilize the trannys Speed Sensor. I have the red drive(17) and red driven(37 thooth) gear to replace it, I had a problem before with the original tranny, when someone installed the red drive 17 tooth gear, it must of been inserted 1 centimeter (my guesstimate) too deep and thus worn my driven gears (3 of them quickly) and my speedo did not register MPH. Not i'm pretty sure of this cause my gears were worn at an angle(pic).

what can I do?

was it 2wd or 4wd?? Since it seems to have the speed sensor on the trans it self it sounds like you got a 2wd trans. You might check the length of the output shafts to make sure they are the same length. you will have to swap tail shaft housings to use the mount provisions to hook up the torque arm. Does the reluctor wheel (the round notched part on the tail shaft that the speed sensor read upon) look like it could be removed?? Otherwise if you use the truck speedo system you might have to get a converter box which can be very spendy last time I checked.

I'm not sure when they stopped doing this but there shoudl be a hole drilled in the output shaft where the reluctor wheel is pressed on. This hole allows for a metal clip to hold the drive gear on the output shaft. You will definately have to swap the tailshaft housing as stated above. The reluctor wheel will pull off to reveal the hole if its there.
