Having some trouble with my tranny swap

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago, I asked for some help on here. And everyone was extremely helpful. So, I finally got around to making the swap but am having some issues. To clarify, I am just switching my t-5 for another t-5 as my tranny is making noise in second and third and isn't engine braking properly. So I started taking the shifter out, draining the tranny, disconnecting wires and bolts around the tranny but just left on the cross member to keep the tranny from dropping. I disconnected those 4 bolts holding the 2 "u" shaped straps at the rear of the driveshaft... but the driveshaft wont move. I pushed and pulled, but nothing. I assume I am supposed to pull it from the axle first and then the transmission. I am getting frustrated and had to put it all back together to get home last night as I was doing the work at a friends and had no way to get home. taking the bolts out wasn't bad even though I only had floor jack, bow jack, and 2 jack stands to work with, but for the life of me I couldn't get the driveshaft to drop. Can anyone help me with this? thanks.

its just a little tight, get a prybar between the u-joint and the axle yoke and pry the joint out.

What he said.

After it has been there for so long its wore itself into the carrier, and all the sludge, and gear oil that leaked out holds it in.

Re: Having some trouble with my tranny swap

so i was doing everything right? After I get those two "u" straps off I just have to ream on it with a pry bar to pull it away from the axle and it will drop down? Does that leave the "u" shaped joint attached to the axle and the "c" shaped joint where the straps were removed as the part that will pull away from the "u" shape and drop so I can just pull it from the tranny? Is there any bolt holding the drive shaft into the tranny or does it just slide out? Sorry for all the questions, but I don't wanna try again just to fail at another attempt.

Re: Having some trouble with my tranny swap

You will need to pry it away from the rear end and it will slide into the trans a little. Then you pull it out of the trans. It is on a splined shaft in the trans so it will slide fairly easily.
