7004r to a TH350 swap using the hurst adapter
I had a 7004r but it could not hold the power that I was throwing at it.
So I went to a built th350.
I am using the Hurst swap kit part #5500001
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HUU-5500001/
Now I am finding that the bolt holes are not even close.
Has anyone used this part for their swap?
If so, did you have the same problem?
BTW, I have a 91 GTA and the th350 is the long 9" tailshaft if that matters
Help?

The bolt holes for the torque arm mount? At the 4 tailhousing bolts? At the side where the torque arm bolts up?

Yes, the bolt holes for the torque arm mount that attaches to the torque arm. The holes are not even close as the previous TA were 3 bolts, the plate for the hurst adapter have more than that and NONE of the holes line up.

I try to explain again.
Where the torque arm bolts to the back of the trans the bolt holes do not line up
Has ANYONE bought this hurst adapter and had the same problems as me?
I guess I'll just have to cut the bracket off and weld a new piece on and drill new holes

Aftermarket parts require some fabrication or adaptation, I used the b&m kit and had to drill new holes for the t/a mount. I also think that you have to use the later style mount, so that may have something to do with your problem at least from what I understand.

Later style mount?
That would make sense. The earlier years have a different bolt pattern for the torque arm mount?

Yeah they have different mounts but seeing as you have a 91 you "should" have the later mount. Let's see some pics though might let us really see the problem.

Here's a pic of the adapter bolted on the tailshaft of the th350 while in the car

Here's a pic of the original tailshaft off of the 700r4. Notice the 3 bolt holes, they are not even close to adapter plate from Hurst.

those don't need to line up. they are for your stock mount. you have to remove the inner bushing from the original bracket and bolt it to the swap bracket using the outer "clamshell".

If you have the plate bolted to the tailshaft housing already, thats all you use to mount the bracket. The bushing only bolts to the plate itself, not to the trans, like it did on the 700.

Re: 7004r to a TH350 swap using the hurst adapter
i used this kit on my last camaro
remember the bracket that bolted to that 3-bolt setup on the tail? you need to take the "pad" thats on their off. that bolts onto that adapter bracket. then the other half fits over it. thats what the slides into one of the little slots on the bottom of the adapter. depending on the setup you had originally had on the vehicle, you may need to swap to a different style insert. the instructions should have the gm numbers you need.
