Clutch engagement issue
Clutch engagement issue
Hi, I recently bought a 88 T/A and while driving it home from the point of sale, I noticed that at a stoplight, when shifting from N to 1st, the clutch would engage at about 1 inch from the floor and anymore and the car would stall, which it did a couple times as it took time for me to get used to it. What could be the cause of this and how can I adjust the clutch so that it will engage a couple inches higher? Appreciate it.

Re: Clutch engagement issue
sounds like an internal or external leak in the clutch hydraulic setup, its replaced as one whole setup...inspect for external leaks, try bleeding to system, if all else fails replace it....also check the mounting area of ur slave cylinder and make sure the pushrod is contacting the fork properly and there is nothing binding...hope this helps

Re: Clutch engagement issue
I have the opposite issue with my '88 Formula. The clutch doesn't engage until the pedal is nearly all the way up to the stop. Everything is installed "by the book," but there's almost no measurable free play at the top of the pedal travel. Maybe that's correct, but it just don't seem right.
Back in the "olden days" of mechanical clutch linkage, I always adjusted my clutch to engage at about mid-point between floor and pedal stop.
So far no real problems. My Luk clutch set is starting to slip, but I think that's more engine torque than clutch adjustment.
Anyway, is there any way to adjust this?

Re: Clutch engagement issue
My clutch engages pretty close to the floor. One thing I hate about it is that the clutch either engages all the way or not at all. There is no "in-between" as far as its concerned. My GTO on the other hand has pretty easy engagement about a 3rd of the way toward the floor and depending on how hard I press it will engage a little bit at a time or all at once. Basically at low speeds between combination of clutch pedal engagement and throttle I can move the car extremely slowly for fine parking movements or not as I choose.
That's the best way I can explain it.
