Clunking sound? Help!

Alright so my car is a 88 firebird with a 700r4 transmission. I just recently had it rebuilt about 6 months ago. The car has drove fine since then until recently. I don't know of it is a transmission problem or something In the differential, but if I take off slow from a stop my car will drive fine. If I try to accelerate even a little hard the makes a loud clunking noise. It sounds like it is coming from the transmission hump or driveshaft, but you can also feel the wheel not want to grab traction properly. I was told that it could possibly be transmission mount? If you all have any idea or information that could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jerry

Check the basics--

shifter, trans mount, torquearm mounts, U-joints, panhard bar, swaybar, lower control arms, unusual rear axle slop.

Re: Clunking sound? Help!

classic trans mount, I'll bet the rubber one is shredded. Buy a poly trans mount from prothane or energy suspension, and you'll never replace it again

Transmission mount! If its noisy all the time that would be my bet. Everyone else pretty much posted what all it could be.
