t56/454 flywheel?

i got an 87 firebird that currently has the 2.8 v6 and 700r4 auto trans. I got a 98 vortech 454 with the ecm and wiring harness for 1200 bucks. From a wrecked 98 Silverado 2500hd. i don't want an automatic transmission so i got a t56 manual trans, clutch and pedal assembly from 4th gen 95 camaro lt1 car for 700. i plan to drive the car like it is this summer and when i take it off the road for the winter i will start the build. rite now i am just gathering parts and info.thanx

1)alright i got a couple of questions first what kind of flywheel do i need to get?
2)is this transmission a different length then the stock transmission? if so do i need a different drive shaft and torque arm. would the ones from the 95 camaro work?
3)are there any other things i need to get to use this transmission?

Re: t56/454 flywheel?

If you don't find the aftermarket 2pc seal LT1 flywheel balanced for a 454, you can get the one for an 85-down 350 and use a balance plate in between the flywheel and the crank. (they make those balance plates for 400s and 454s.)

A starter for the 153 tooth flywheel needs the in-line bolt holes in the block; should be there on a 98 block.

Re: t56/454 flywheel?

98 454 starter will be for a 168 tooth flywheel. Use one for a 95 LT1 - 153 teeth. Make sure your block has the right bolt holes for it.

http://www.google.com/products?hl=en...%20plate%20454
Looks like they're up to $60 at a few places.

Re: t56/454 flywheel?

will this work with a 98 454?
o
n an ebay add for one of these it says "This a 454 BBC flywheel balance plate used to enable use of a 350 standard flywheel with a BBC 454 externally balanced crankshaft. No need of purchasing an expensive 454 flywheel. Fits all two piece rear main seal crankshafts 1970 to 1990." is the 98 a two piece rear main seal or did they stop that in 1990? and what difference will the rear main seal make?

Re: t56/454 flywheel?

I'm not familiar with any balance plates being drilled for the 1 piece crank pattern, tho there may be some, I have a mark 4 block with 2 piece main which uses the same patern as the 2 piece SBC.

Re: t56/454 flywheel?

Unlike the small block, the flywheel to crank bolt pattern didn't change when the Mk V got 1pc rear seal.
The Mk VII got metric bolts. Yours is a Mk VI.

so your your saying that the balance plate wont bolt to it cuz it has a different bolt pattern. is there one made for the 98's bolt pattern?
