rear end help please

in my 83 z28 i had a whine when applying gas and nothing when i let off.so then i heard a pop in there when turning sharp and it got worse and started poping every sharp turn i made after four or five pops i made it homeand it started to make a ticking sound and then would stop?when i took of the pan i found a few small pieces of what looked like shimes or spacers very thin material and some metal flakes in the last bit of oil.when i tried to remove the pin that holds the axles i noticed damage on the far side and cant get it out past that part.ther is maybe two inches that wont slide out all the way.all the gears look fine no missing teeth or any thing.any ideas on how to get that pin out it slides free right until the damage it looks like someting wore into the pin.any ideas on what broke would be helpful im new to the rear end game so thanks and bye the way its an 10 bolt disc brakes.

Re: rear end help please

i had about the same problem, the shimes was worn thin and in the bottom along with a lot of metal slivers, also the pin on the driver side was broke in half. i found a posi 3.73 in the salvage yard, so i changed the whole rearend. i think it was cheeper to do it that way.

Re: rear end help please

Is this a standard differemntial? If it is then the rear end has probably been subjected to a lot of one wheel burnouts, which is what caused the damage. If you can get the shaft out far enough to remove the c clips from the axles then there is no need to remove it any farther. You are going to need to get the axles out so that you can remove the differential and replace it.
