I have an 83 Camaro with the V6 and an automatic transmission. I was told rebuilding the trans would be cheap but now I'm told the transmission is rare, out of production, and is the only one that will bolt to my V6.

A week ago I was told that the mechanic had a trans ready to go we were just waiting for seals, now all of a sudden we're can't use that trans because it doesn't fit???

Am I being had or is there really a rare V6 only transmission produced until 83 that is worth rebuilding?

What do I do here?

 

What you have is thm-200C 3-sp auto which was the standard automatic (not rare) untill the changeover the thm 700r4 4-sp. I would get another opinion but it should be able to be rebuilt and a 700r4 should be able to be bolted in.

The 200c was a common GM automatic before te 700r4.

 

just find a V6 patterned 700R4. '93 V6 4th gens still used the 700R4, then 87-92 3rd gens had the "updated" version.


You may have to find a few parts at a junk yard like a different shifter but you'll gain overdrive.

well that settles it I'm gonna march over there right now and tell em to get their poop in a group! I didn't think there was a rare Camaro trans... The mech said that he had a trans but then found out it didn't fit the car (how you can have a trans sitting beside a car for 1 week and not know it doesn't fit is beyond me)
