trans dropping oil!!!

Ok, I just bought my 1989 rs camaro 3 days ago and everything was ok aside from late shift from 1st to 2nd.. its a 2.8 v6 automatic..

I took it to a muffler shop to check out an exhaust leak and found two other leaks! one was the tranny. It was dropping alot of oil pretty consistently and i wasn't sure if it was coming from the gasket or lines or what . I have a gravel driveway so I didn't notice the leak and I checked it out before i bought the car from my uncle and supposedly he fixed the issue with the trans a while ago but obviously the work didn't hold up. I want to figure out what else it might be before I start working on it. I don't have time until thursday and I want to know what i should be looking for when I get to it.

The other leak is from the right rear brake line. fluid was spilling all over the axle. I guess that's a different subject though.

I'm starting to think getting the car was a mistake but I like it so much that I don't want to give it back. I want to see if I could fix the problem myself before I throw in the towel...

Thanks for any help or tips on how to fix this problem. I really appreciate it guys

Re: trans dropping oil!!!

Man Idk what I would do with out this thread I mean look at how many replies I've received so far! Oh yeah none! I could really use some help fellas. The ppl that were supposed to help me backed out so I'm on my own back to square one. If anyone might know at least something that could be wrong feel free to post it up. any help would be cool and much appreciated. I hope the leak isn't coming from up near the converter. It's hard to say where right now I have to jack it up and find out. Also does anyone know the type of trans in the v6? I tried to find a gasket online for the trans pan but they were only offering the 700 r4 and I know I don't have that pushing the smaller 2.8 I have

heyy, i myself have a leak, coupla drops now and then from the tranny pan. i didnt know where it was comin from either. best way is to dry all the oil spots, then keep and eye on it and see where its leaking out. found out my seal was bad. replaced it. all good now. =] good luck with yours..

Easy fella, sarcasm on this message board doesn't go over well with a lot of folks on here. You need to get under the vehicle and take a look. There are several places on the transmission that it could leak (coolant lines, dipstick, tv cable, pan, pump, etc..) so you need to clean everything off, run it, then check again. Then we can help you with how to go about repairing it.

As for your transmission, it's a 700r4, just a version that works with a v6.
