So, Which Is Accurate?

I'm getting ready to do a full manual valve body conversion on my 700R4. Now, one thing that concerns me is that I have been told by a very reputable member on this board that accidentally starting out in high gear will fry the clutches. However, I have also been told by a very reputable trans builder that this would not fry the clutches, the car just wouldn't get any pull.

So 700R4 gurus, who is right here?

is the car drag only? if not, a full manual VB is a really bad idea. if it gets street driven, maybe look into the manual/auto bodies that still retain the auto feature when the car is in drive

Explain. After driving a 5 speed, I love having full control of the gears but hate working the ******* clutch. This car used to be a DD, but it has since been retired to weekend cruiser/project car.

I simply don't understand why so many people advise against FMVB's. Right now, I have the setup you speak of and personally, I hate it. Not very interactive.

Re: So, Which Is Accurate?

The TransGo full manual setup will allow you to use the TV cable to control line pressure at different throttle openings. All others use full line or almost full line pressure all of the time. These are reverse shift patterns, and this is what you do not want, as it is very hard on the front pump, plus the backward shift pattern. You will need the large boost valves .500" main and .300" intermediate/reverse boost valves and a Corvette servo, and the modified TransGo Performance Shift kit.

its my understanding that full manual bodies are very hard on the trans fluid, which is not changed very often, will lead to trans failure. this may be the case only with the style that Probuilt mentioned that use full pressure all the time.

Actually, It's the other way around around. I talked with dana and mentioned removing the TV cable and Dana said this is NOT the proper way to run a FMVB since this will run full line pressure 24/7 and make quick work of the front pump.

My question is though, why does everyone say that starting in high gear will fry the clutches? What goes on internally?

Dana, my build is equipped with a .500 boost valve.
