question on rear end..
hey, i have a problem. the PO of my camaro obviously did not know what they were doing cause my pass. side axle seal leaks. no biggie right? wrongggggg!! lol took the diff. cover off (3.73 posi gears) to unbolt the two bolts that hold in that thick pin to slide out my axle, when, uh-oh, one of the bolt heads is broke off, sticks maybe 1/4in out of the metal. cant grab it with vice grips. how should i get this out? also, im gettin a v6 camaro with a good rear end, has slip-lock rear tho. could i just swap the v6 rear with the v8? would it handle my motor? or easier just to get that one bolt out?

Rear ends are the same on V6's and V8's, though I'm unsure what a 'slip-lock' is. Limited slip, perhaps?

yeaaa, mine definently has two bolts one on each side. and the pin in thos e pics is small compared to mine. mines a good inch wide. as for the slip-lock, idk what its called lol. only one wheel spins on it, not a posi.

Re: question on rear end..
EDIT (what follows is incorrect): Another source has the 82-85 locking Diff (BW) with what appears to be a bolt at both the top and bottom of the pinion shaft. Sound familiar?

yeaa, im thinkin ill just get a set of reverse drilling bits and try to screw it out, if that doesnt work, ill weld a socket or nut to it, and try that.

Please post some pictures of this differential. I've been building rear ends for every U.S. made car and truck for over 28 years and I've never seen one with a bolt in both ends of the cross shaft.
Is this a 10 bolt rear end or a 9 bolt?

Re: question on rear end..
After looking at the diagram more closely, I see that only one bolt passes through the pinion cross shaft. There are two bolts, however, that appear to hold the unit together. I'll put pics up later.
