Need Recommendation on Quality Torque Converter

Im getting ready to build my LT4 Hot Cammed 350 and put it in my 91 Firebird and im considering putting a small stall converter in with it but i dont know much about the brands out there. Ive been told by a few people to stay away from B&M all together. Can you guys recommend a good quality torque converter thats also not too hard on the wallet.

Re: Need Recommendation on Quality Torque Converter

I don't know alot about the subject, but I have read in
mags like Super Chevy, Hot Rod, Rod Action, etc, that
a few things considered when looking for a torque converter
include from what I recall---

Axel ratio. Cam size { lift, duration, desired RPM }.
Desired performance. Lock-up or non-lock-up. More, but I can't recall.

By saying you want a " small " t'converter, do you mean
as in low RPM stall like around 2200-2400 RPM, or as in
8 inch, where the stall is higher around 3000 RPM?

Hughes has a good rep, but personaly don't know anyone using it.

Not much help I know. Maybe something in there you didn't
think about- IDK.
Good luck with your build!!

ive a got a 3.42 rear gear and the hot cam has a 218/228 duration with 525 lift and 112LSA. i definitely want a lockup converter since i want to be capable of daily driver status...by small i meant somewhere around 2000 RPM. im not looking to go crazy on the stall speed. i just want something a little more than stock.

Re: Need Recommendation on Quality Torque Converter

If you don't want to spend the money for the 9.5" Edge torque converter, ($545.00) then go with the Edge 12" 2,200 - 2,400 rpm stall. They come with a one year warranty, and go for $295.00. I have never had a comeback on his 12" units. Let me know if you need one?
