Quick question, what is the plug on the passenger side of my 9 bolt?

It started leaking from there yesterday night after my idiotic father moved it. What is it? Is it replaceable since like I said its starting to leak from there.
I imagine since it leaked a good ammount that a fluid change would be in order, the rear was from a 88k mile T/A GTA. Any fluid reccomendations?

Did he stand the rear up on end? Looks like he got lube up in the axle tube where it normally wouldn't be.

He left it facing upwards or where the driveshaft goes, yes.
Should the cap or top part have play with it or leak for that matter?

yes it is a vent . i really do not think your father is the " IDIOT" , just my thoughts . any rear end change should be inspected and have a fluid change . there are many fluid brands to chose from , i prefer mobil 1 for cars not trucks . good luck to you & your father .

The vent is simply the cap crimped over a fitting and yes the cap sits loose, that's where it vents through
