rpm check

Best way to solve a problem is to ignore it right? eh, maybe it isnt a problem but its worth asking

Well, the Transgo full-manual reprogram kit works great in the th-350, LOVE it with the Quicksilver shifter

Here's the question though. I was informed years back that the rear has 3.23 gears, it is a 9 bolt Borg. When I had the transmission out to put the kit in and clean it up I changed the speedo gears, (while I forget the exact number of teeth) the gears are correct for a 3.23 rear. Why is it that in 3rd gear I am seeing roughly 3200-250 rpm at 60 mph and almost 3500 at 65? Speed looks to be right as I'm pacing with traffic and went by one of the drive by speed sign things that give a reading.

Thanks!

Re: rpm check

well plug in a digital (lcd) timing light and rev'er up and see what type of readings you're getting...

Re: rpm check

I was thinking maybe my tach reads high too, but the rpms seems to be dead on for the most part, when it says 3000 rpm, it sure sounds like 3000 rpm, 4500-5000 too. Dont get me wrong, it is a very responsive car, banked turns, it sticks like glue, the acceleration is pleasing but I suppose I'll have to jack the rear up and do the driveshaft/wheel rotation count to check my rear gearing, and if it is about 3.23/3.27 I suspect maybe the torque converter slipping waaaaay too much.

Re: rpm check

ok, checked the rear, it is 3.23/3.27-- and the RPMs are correct. It is spinning too fast. The acceleration is nice, dont get me wrong but something is a miss. With 3.23/.27 gearing I should not be seeing 60 mph at 3500 rpm -- acting like it is 4.10/.11. Should be around 2750-2760 rpm with the 3.23/.27.
