my T-5 into 327 swap thread.
So I posted a while back looking for a overdrive transmission to replace into my daily driver 1982 berlinetta with a '67 327 and a TH-350. A great member here, 19 z28 92 (Thanks man!), told me he pulled out a T-5 from his car. Of course, whats better than an overdrive with the fun of shifting through the other 4? dunno. It went pretty much like a standard swap cept for a few key things.
The biggest issue we had was that my flexplate was a 168 tooth flexplate with a staggered tooth starter that seems it was for a big block to make up for the CR my engine has (new smaller starter hesitates at the comp stroke.). anyways, his flywheel was a 153 tooth so my starter didn't come close. luckily there was a hole already tapped for an in-line starter, so a loss of starting power and $80 + $30 core and we were good.
After that it went pretty well, we had to drill two holes (one was punched) for the clutch pedal cylinder, the large hole was pre-drilled, all we had to do was oval the bottom of the hole and it was flush. then I used his car to line up the large hole, which fit great, if anyone wants these dimmensions and where I measured from, ask and I will go and remeasure them. everything went in well after that. trans is holding up great so far, like everyone says, the lack of low end torque in the 327 seems fine. if there are any questions go ahead and ask and I will reply to the best of my knowledge.
