converting to stick strong transmission?
hey all
im converting my iroc to a stick from a 700r4. the motor is being redone and it will have about 500 hp. I need a transmission that will hold any thoughts i found a tremec tko 600 with everything bell housing and crossmember everything i need to install and its over 3 grand. Anything more affordable then that? Any thoughts would be great. thanks in advance.

I assume you'll be strengthening the frame? Be aware of frame twist, especially if you enable it to hook up

cheapest option will be a lt1 style t56, 93-97 f-bodies. It will be used, and they are rated for something like 450 horse and will do just fine. probably can find one for about half of what the tko would set you back. Or less if you get lucky.
Just remember, you still have to consider upgrading the driveshaft and the axle too, the stock axle is not the strongest thing out there.

Re: converting to stick strong transmission?
thanks for the replies.
Hawks sells a T56 kit for $2200 which is better than $3200 for the tko. i will have to replace them sometime but to help i am putting in a 3:73 rear. I am leaving this friday for a trip and really want to order the transmission before i leave. i'm also going to put in weld-in sub connectors. Is it worth the $2200 just to get everything i need and seems like a good deal over the tko.
86TA, i noticed you have the Tremec tko. Where did you get your parts from. The website I found was Forte's.

i got the trans and most the conversion parts from Fotre's. I used a UMI crossmember mount TA, and a stock length driveshaft with the ford c6 yoke, also from fortes.

Re: converting to stick strong transmission?
i'd look for a donor car before i'd go with the hawks kit.
