How to drop engine lower than from factory???

I am needing to drop the engine lower in the frame. Anyone think of an easy way to do this. Reason being is I am wanting to get the tail of the trans up closer to O degree pinion angle. I know you are supposed to run egual but opposite ujoint angles and right now i'm at 3 degrees. Very unacceptable. I need to drop the engine lower so I can then raise the trans at the mount. The top of the trans(TKO 600) is as close to the tunnel as can be. Anyone got any suggestions as to the best way to get the ujoint angles closer together?

i had the same problem with my tko. Aside from the driveline angle issues, it reduced clearance for the stock style exhaust at the k-member too, if thats a issues for you.

If you lower the engine, the oil pan may be lower than the k-member, bad idea, and for that matter, i dont know if you can lower the engine much before the oil pan hits the top of the k-member.

I took a more invasive approach to correcting this problem, i cut the trans tunnel down the sides and behind the shifter location, leaving it attached under the dash, and raise the tunnel about 1" at the back of shifter location. Welding it all back up and was able to raise the trans a bit over 1/2" at the output shaft, which was enough to level up the trans. The console still fit afterward too, but its really really tight to the bottom of the radio pod, which is good really.

Re: How to drop engine lower than from factory???

My engine sits lower than stock but to do it, I use front motor plates. With a stock crossmember and side motor mounts, about the only way you could drop it lower is to make new shorter side mounts or modify the crossmember so the mounts sit lower.

Your other option is to modify the tranny tunnel for room to push the transmission higher which is the more common thing to do.

I think my u-joint angles are greater than that and I ran the whole season with no problems. I plan on reducing the angles this winter by raising the back of the transmission even if it means I need to cut out the tranny tunnel and fabricate a new one.

Or, even better, easier, cheeeper, and safer:

Get an adjustable torue arm. Tune the angles from the opposite end: make the rear match the motor/trans, rather than the other way.

I do have an adjustable torque arm and the best I can get is 3 degrees.

I have some extra mounts that I think I will try and modify and see what that gets me. I'm not looking for a lot of drop.

While I have thought about cutting the tunnel and raising the trans that way, you still aren't gaining that much. I have a Spohn k-member so I have the room to drop the engine. If all I can drop the engine is 1", that 1" drop will raise the tail shaft on the tranny too. Then I have more room to raise the trans at the crossmember. Basicall getting a 2 for 1 deal. I have the winter to mess with it since all it does is sit in the garage during the winter. Thanks for the ideas guys.
