Would this be a good posi unit for me?

I have a 10 bolt posi 2.73 currently in my 90 T/A. I want to go with a series 3 carrier / posi with 3.42's. I don't track, Only street driving in the summer, But want better get up and goooo out of the rearend!
I seen a Zexel Torsen with 3.42's on ebay in exellent condition. These came on the LT1's i believe from 99 - 02
Anyone want to chime in and give me your opinion on this unit, and if it would be a good addition for me.

Thanks in advance.

That would probably be the cheapest way to go, and at least it's not an Auburn. I would recommend getting a good instalaltion kit before trying to install it.

It is a gear type limited slip (posi), not a clutch type like the Eaton Posi. It will spin both tires if it's in good coondition.

Would it be a good unit , or would a clutch type unit be preferable?

I prefer the clutch type for street/strip use and the gear type for road racing or auto cross. The gear tyep will work for drag racing too, but not as well as the clutch type.

In theory, a clutch type is subject to wearing out the clutches or friction cones where the Torsen that was the standard diff. in 99-02 has no friction materials to wear out. (they make Torsens that additional have friction devices too.)

The Torsen should be a better more natural traction device in wet conditions where the clutch type Eaton or Auburn posi units are friction locked by default, act as an open diff around a corner with little "in between."

For what you said - Torsen all the way.
