How to remove and install 9-bolt ring, bearings, and seals using a 12-ton shop press

I bought a 12-ton shop press from Harbor Freight to do some pressing of bearings and seals on rears and transmissions. I've figured out how to use it for removing and installing the pinion bearing and carrier bearings on my 9-bolt.

I was wondering if anyone has some tips on how to use my press to remove and install the ring, bearing, and seal on a 9-bolt axle. Searches in the boards seem to show that most people take it to a shop to have them pressed on/off. I'd like to use my own press for this if possible.

Here's a link to the shop press I bought:

Thanks in advance!

Matt

SO FAR ALL I KNOW IS TO CUT THE INNER BEARING RETAINER ALMOST TO THE SHAFT AND BREAK IT WITH A CHISEL. IM IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUEL PUMP CHANGE / FORCED REAR END DROP ON A 1988 5.7 IROC-Z SO I FIGURED CHANGE THE SEALS / BEARINGS WHILE I HAD THE REAR END DROPPED. I HAVE A BW 9 BOLT 7.750" 2.77. IM NOT SURE HOW TO INSTALL THE INNER RETAINER. SEEMS LIKE A JACK HANDLE SLIPPED OVER THE AXLE COULD INSTALL THE INNER RETAINER UNDER A PRESS. I HAVENT TRIED IT YET. THE PRESS I HAVE DOESNT HAVE THE HEIGHT TO DO IT. MITE TRY MACHINE SHOP.

Do you have one of these? You will need it for pressing the bearings off.

It will be similar to pressing the pinion bearing off.

Yep, I've got a large bearing separator. I think my problem is going to be the length of the axle and fitting it into my 12-ton press. I guess if it doesn't fit, I'll have to take the axles to a machine shop.

BTW Big Gear Head, I've read several of your posts and they have really helped me out. Thanks!

Depends on axle length. I know I havent found an axle yet that will fit in my 12 ton HF press. It just is not tall enough.
