Aluminum Rear End Housing???

Found this while looking around at Currie:

Apparently, its an all aluminum Ford 9" Housing. Any thoughts? If this really is an all aluminum rearend, I'd highly consider a 9" aluminum rear over a built 10-bolt just for the weight savings alone.

Re: Aluminum Rear End Housing???

The center casting is aluminum but the axle tubes are steel. These were designed for street rods mostly. Putting one in a 3rd gen would be difficult because there is no place to connect the torque arm.

Bummer. That means big bucks on getting it made to fit then. At least its lighter than the stock rear.

After you get all of the parts inside it would probably not be lighter. 9 inch parts are heavy. A stock 9 inch chunk weighs 84 pounds by it's self.

This one weighed 42 pounds when I finished it, but this can not be used on the street.

Yeah it is a very heavy rear end. And it would be overkill unless you were planning on 600 HP/600Ft LBs. engine.

You'd think with all the advancements made in the last 10yrs on aluminum that this would be a possibility.

Re: Aluminum Rear End Housing???

well it is a possibility. We are just saying the amount of work it'll take. It's not that cost efficient and overkill
