VSS question

I am in the middle of swapping my motor and tranny from my 85 to my 84. It has a cable driven spedo in both cars but the 85 has a vss buffer under the dash. Since it is cable driven it doesn't use a VSS correct?

Both the 84 and 85 would have the VSS (optical head and buffer) located on the back side of the cluster. It has no effect on the speedo.

Re: VSS question

The vss buffer on the 85 was under the dash on the passenger side nothing on the speedo i looked in the same place on the 84 and have not seen one so it must be on the back of the cluster. so the tranny has a vss sensor as well?

Re: VSS question

Are we discussing Camaros or Birds? On Camaros, the VSS is located on the rear of the cluster 82-89 (a small yellow box). The cruise control module is found on the pass side (the 84 may have had a transducer. Check the cable under the hood). 90+ has the VSS on the trans tail shaft.
