New 1-2 accumulator larger than original.

I purchased a firmer 1-2 accumulator spring and it came with a new accumulator. However, when I tried to put the accumulator in it would only go so far into the housing. Just to about flush with the housing. The pin didn't even get all the way through. The accumulator that was in there would go all the way in and bottom out at the pin. My question is, was my old one worn or the new one just made for a newer model 700R4 or something. Mine is an 86 by the way. I left the original one in because it was working as is and replaced the purple spring with the new firmer white one. Thanks in advance.

If the pin diameter in the piston is smaller, it is likely for a 4l60e.

Sounds like someone grabbed one out of the wrong bin. Not a big deal I guess. Was really cheap. Thanks, I kind of figured it was the wrong application.
