can i install the ring and pinion on a 4th gen rear end myself?

I was wondering how hard it would be too install a new ring and pinion on my 4th gen rear end myself, and what special tools are involved? This axle is out of a 1999 camaro and has the zexel torsen carrier and for some reason only has 3.23 ratio so its gotta go.

The following link will provide an idea of what's involved:

I would if I could, but I can only stick threads in the forums I moderate. Perhaps a PM to the appropriate mod.

I added the above to the 10-Bolt FAQ, BTW.

I'm using the rear brakes that came with my 2001 rear end because, they seem like better brakes than the '89 Camaro ones. I figure if they worked on the 01 rear end they should also work on an '89 rear end. I'm having to modify the brake mounting flanges to get them to work, however.

Per the discussion in your other thread:

Those are also made by PBR. As far as "better", they're not all that different, except that (1) their parking brake setup is completely different, by using a mini drum brake instead of mechanically operating the caliper; and (2) parts are ALOT easier to come by since they're newer and there were FAR more of them released into the world than the 89-92 version. I'm pretty sure you're right about swapping them onto the 89 rear; you'll have to overcome a few details like parking brake cables, but overall they should go on without too much of a fight.
