what other car's can i swap transmission with if i can't find one out of a 85 and up 700r4 v8 camaro with out to much trouble please anyone help

 

700r4 tranny in my car is out of an '85 chevy caprice
-i just swapped the caprice tail housing for one off a
3rd gen 700r4,4 bolts.
most '82 -93 passenger car 700r4s probably would work
by switching the tail housing for an f-bod one.
you could also fix (or have fixed) your original tranny
BTW what is your tranny doing/why do you think it is
"shot"

 

I bought the car and it shifts into 1st then 2nd then it acts like it goes into neutral and doesn't go to 3rd. I took it to 2 diff. tranny places and i was told two diff things. The one place even wanted to buy it so i am not sure if the tranny is shot or it just needs some adjusting. i checked the fluid and pulled the pan there was only a quart 1/2 of tranny fluid i replaced the filter and filled it up still nothing happened.

 

If you can try to get a 87 up 700r-4 tranny

 

cool thanx. I hope i can find one cheap enough. no one seems to have one in the local junkyards, and if they do they wan't an arm and leg.

 

I got my '85 caprice 700r4 in 1995 for $150"as is"
still going strong,so that was a good buy
if you do get a tranny from a car other than a camaro,
some of the"programming"-shift points,shift firmness
speedo gears are likely to be different and may need
tweaked to suit your preferences.When i got the tranny
out of the caprice,i put it on an engine stand and stuck
a transgo shift kit in it before swapping it into the z28.
700r4 tranny got some upgrades in 1984 and further
upgrades in 1987
