Does anyone know what the Tranny Fluid GM specs are for an 85 700R4?

If you mean how much you need to put in it:
"Pan removal 10pints
Overhaul 23pints"
I have the official 85 manual so if you need some other bit of info be more specific and I'll look it up.

At the time, the recommended fluid was Dexron III.

You can still find it.

What happened was that oil companies that offered Dexron III didn't get their license to label their it Dexron III formulation renewed (or whatever) from GM.

Dexron VI is backward compatible, but you can still find Dexron III (unlicensed) most anywhere. I use either Pennzoil or Super Tech brand.

In the above document from GM, they state that you should avoid any unlicenced Dexron III. I have used ATF that reads, “suitable for use in DEXRON®-III applications” with no issues. YMMV

Re: 700R4 Tranny Fluid

Don't worry about it.

Dexron, current version, is what you need. They're backwards-compatible.

Re: 700R4 Tranny Fluid

Yeah its just 7 dollars a quart for DEX VI. They still sell DexIII at all auto parts store. Most times it just says Automatic transmission fluid. I know O'reilly's here carries it in Valvoline and O'reilly brand.
