T56 VSS and Reverse Lockout Part Numbers

Anybody have part numbers for the T56 VSS sensor and Reverse Lockout solenoid and housing? I can't find them for the life of me.

Thanks,
John

Re: T56 VSS and Reverse Lockout Part Numbers

I'm guessing you need those?

I used to have a whole bunch of that stuff laying around; I'll look and see if I haven't thrown it in the trash yet. Especially the reverse solenoid, since I have less than zero use for that in any car I drive. Probably have but maybe not.

Yeah I'm having a bare T56 being built by Tick Performance. So I'm in need of all the sensors. The reverse solenoid is by far the most expensive at $120+ new. That is really the only one I need.

Re: T56 VSS and Reverse Lockout Part Numbers

You don't need that.

It's a letIN solenoid, not a lockOUT one. It gets in the way normally, and then when energized, it moves out of the way and lets the shifter go to R.

Leave it out. Put a plug in the hole. 30mm IIRC but it's been a while since I last bought one.

Sofa,

I'm aware of how the solenoid works. I want to keep this feature of the trans. I am interested in buying one if you have one for sale.

Re: T56 VSS and Reverse Lockout Part Numbers

I found out some new info. The number I provided for the reverse lockout solenoid is just for the housing. There is another part number for the solenoid. Together the cost is over $300 at the dealer. Fortunatley Tick Performance has new GM solenoid + housing for $100. Sofa, I am going this route. No need to look for your used ones.

85MikeTPI,

I found a cool reverse lockout controller you may or may not be aware of.

http://www.samocoind.com/T56Module.html

This black box reads vehicle speed from the T-56 VSS and only allows you to go into reverse if going less than 5mph. Just like how the system worked stock in the LT cars. Very clean. No need to hack up brack/clutch wiring.

I will be running this setup.

That is a pretty cool find, let us know how it works out for you. If I ever have to mess with the tranny again probably the route I'll go.

Yes, I thought I had mentioned it here before, but I can't locate any proof. The $99 price tag is pretty far off base though IMHO, for $8 of electronics. I built something similar a few years ago, but spent too much time trying to make it self-powered and lost interest.

Yeah if I was still in school with access to the programmers I could have made one in a few days. But oh well, I'm just glad they make it.

I have been meaning to pick up a micro processor programmer for myself. Lots of fun little car projects await.

Re: T56 VSS and Reverse Lockout Part Numbers

$8 of electronics
Get yourself a sobering experience:

Do your design and board layout, and upload your BOM and Gerbers here http://www.screamingcircuits.com/ (about the cheeeeepest place I know of, and this is the business I'm in). Put in the qty you think you can sell, and figure out how much out of your own pocket you're willing to sink into that much inventory, and divide that quote by that # to get your unit cost, and then come back and tell us about $8 worth of electronics.

My most recent proto qty PCB order shipped yesterday, so my knowledge of the matter could possibly be obsolete by now although I think it's close enough to work with. 25 boards I'm getting in, they will cost me about $11 ea in 1000s and probably $9 in 10,000s when they go to production (small specialty product). Those 25 are costing me about $2200 in parts, bare boards, and SMT assembly, not counting my time, the cost of the design software (I use Eagle and Viewmaster to keep it cheeeeep, and usually Microchip µPs since their programmers and compilers are so cheeeeeep, no Orcad or Keil or any of that for me), or anything else.

Now, go to Plexus or Sanmina or some such where, and have em make about 100,000 a month, it might be $8.

However all that may be, it's a cool idea. Not sure it has much commercial potential, but if it gets you what you want, go for it. Me though, I've been driving stick shift cars probably since before your daddy was a gleam in your grandpa's eye; I learned a long time ago how to keep up with what gear I had the car in. I don't feel the need for any such thing. I merely avoid putting the car in reverse while driving down the road. Not too tough really. Doesn't seem like a $100 challenge to be honest. An elegant $100 solution to a problem I don't have. About like, I don't buy Viagra either, no matter how elegant of a solution it might be for some people. But that's just me.

Meh, my car is going to see tons of full throttle 4-5 shifts. I like having the piece of mind that the trans won't let me go 4-R. I do not enjoy the sound of grinding gears. For my requirements it makes sense. Obviously for yours, it doesn't. You aren't going to convince me otherwise and I'm not going to convince you. Fair enough?

Before I put the LS1 in my car, I hooked the reverse solenoid to the brake light switch, so it opened up when you put your foot on the brake pedal. Worked pretty good too. Now its wired to the LS1 PCM.

Nah, the OP said he didn't need it, so I haven't gone out and looked yet... just got back from school, I'm attempting to acquire a marketable skill so I can maybe find a real job whenever (if ever) I grow up... might go out later on

You need one?

If he doesn't, I do. When I first did the t56 swap on my bird the guys at the JY busted the tail end of that off so I soldered the wires in a epoxied over everything. Ugly but functional. Makes disconnecting the trans a bit difficult though.
