You can mount any trans to any engine with an adapter plate.
bought or home made. Nots gonna be rocket science but may feel like it as you figure it out.

I say no, if you got money to spend, much better option out there over a T56

Less your travel 1000s of miles a day, or doing WOT highspeed runs on the salt flats, them 2 ODs are nearly useless.

If the T5 was as bullet proof as a T56, very few would bother.
[only cause the T5 is "weak, is it the goto mod]

Was just going to raise the tell I read this LOL.

Well I don't agree with your reasoning for the two overdrives if you have anything over 3.70 gears but I do agree with you on the t-5 if it was bullet proof.

To bad no one has played around with the g-force t-5 tranny on here and given some solid reviews on it, always liked the t-5 tranny cause it's easier to lift out lol.

Well thats most of it, as allot folks think a T56 is some sort of instant performance mod and forget the rest / very few install a set of lets say 4:11s to replace their highway gears to finish it off. [4:11s being a popular street rod size that would really suck on the eway without 2 ODs, yet shread the streets like jack the ripper]

The T5 once ready for it is a rock, though anything can be destroyed if you can't drive right.

Re: bmw gearbox on camaro

TKO600 is the way to go.

t5 is a great trans but most have too much endplay and break below 200hp in anything over 2500lbs too bad no one really fixed its flaws to keep a similar size and weight with its low power loss

Ive seen enough of the g-force upgraded ones break for the same issues ^ better gears wont fix improper clearances and dumb *** abuse

but gforce has an upgraded case, which helps more than upgraded gears. sombody makes a billet case too.

i have a tko, its a great trans, but doesnt shift smoothly. I hear there are ways to correct this with some different inner parts though

never saw the cases. would be interested in seeing one.

the tko is very notchy but I think is worth putting up with. heck the 600 is stronger than the t56.

i have the tko600, its been a great trans, there is no question whether you are in gear or not, its a very "positive" shift. With a short throw shifter, the 1-2 shift can be a tough one at high rpms. I miss second alot since i put in the tri-ax shifter. I have to pay more attention when shifting to make sure its in before i pop the clutch back up. I guess the rev limiter was a good investment

.
That would be half the problem, kinda and not really pointed at you but folks just belive all the stuff said that a T5 is junk and never bother to explore if its true our not.

Ive found thats its more to do with the driver then the trans.

Re: bmw gearbox on camaro

Ive never really liked the idea of having a trans that can break in an application. The T5 is decent, for what it is. I had one in my beater mustang, and it wasnt too bad. But, I wouldnt trust it in a high output application. The center distance just isnt large enough and the case isnt strong enough.

The TKO is a good trans, but its gotten a lot more expensive since I bought mine. I think I only paid 1200 or so for the whole lot, but that was years ago. I will say that its held up quite nicely even though I beat the crap out of it. My only complaint with the TKO is the older style syncros. Theyre not as easy to deal with compared to the newer materials, and the shifts arent as nice. With the heavy internals and clutch disc, cant just slap it in gear like a rice burner. Have to rev-match during downshifts, or it takes a long time to syncronize. Not that its necessarly a bad thing having to do it the right way.

As far as swapping in a BMW trans, theres a lot more to think about. The adapter plate is just one of them. Also have to consider if the input shaft is long enough, and if you can come up with a pilot bearing that will work. Also have to deal with the fact that the trans tunnel isnt that large in these cars. Theres also the issue of the yoke and drive shaft. Have to find a yoke that works, and probably make a custom driveshaft to boot. Dont forget the shifter location as well. Probably not worth the effort, considering there are a good deal of options today for transmissions.

Re: bmw gearbox on camaro

I have a TKO as well. I have yet to get it in the car but if you look around long enough you can still get them for a decent price. I got mine used with 1000 miles on it for 1000 bucks. Then proceeded to spend another 500 to get all the parts to convert it for use in our cars. If it shifts like you both are saying i think i should be very happy with it. Im used to a notchy shift (drive an 83 subaru daily) and dont mind rev-matching to get it into a lower gear since i do it fairly regularly. I researched both the t56 and the tko and decided the tko was the better choice for me just because of the gearing (gearing in the trans was better for my 3.27 rear gears that i have currently) as well as the fact i dont have to buy an expensive flywheel (have a 2 piece rms block).
