Best brand of ring and pinion?

Finally biting the bullet and rebuilding my 9 bolt. My re builder has indicated that he would prefer installing new ring and pinion to avoid issues with the original gear making noise after it has been set up (damaged carrier bearing forced new bearings to be installed and re-clearance). I see many different brands of ring and pinions on the market (too bad they don't offer anything but 3.70/3.73 ratio) such as Yukon, US Gear, Nitro, etc. with prices from $199 to $450.

Any thoughts on the best brand? Is there a price-to-quality relationship? Are these made in the US anymore?

Thanks!

You have a good list to choose from. I rebuilt a second 9 bolt with the 3.70 Nitro, It seems to be alright so far. Here's one more link, http://9bolt.com/gearsets.html These gears are all used, but there is a good variety. I have a used 3.08 gear set I'll give you, for the cost of shipping. Not too many guy's want a 3.08 gear set.

red rock you're the man when it comes to the 9 Bolt. Yeah, I got the Nitro info from one of your earlier posts - so you are happy so far it sounds like and they have a great price. I appreciate your generous offer for the gears but I'm looking to go steeper than my current 3.27, preferably 3.45 but that doesn't look likely in a new gear set. I don't know if it's always the case but the guy doing my rebuild doesn't like used ring and pinions - he says they have too many issues. He doesn't even want to re-use the current 3.27 set even though they look good from a non-experts eye (mine).

Re: Best brand of ring and pinion?

Thanks, but member Big gear head is way more knowledgeable than i am on rear ends, I learned a lot buy reading some of his post's. I built my own with a lot of reading and asking questions, and buying some proper tools. I took my time, but overall it was a lot of fun to do. If you have time and patience it can be done. As for the 3.08 gears, i wouldn't want them either, but that's what came in the salvaged rear i bought.
