4:10s in a driver bad??? or

i got 4:10s on my truck but its got 35" tires whats it like in a camaro?
My friend has a iroc axle, disc, with a new eaton posi and 4:10s. I was thinking about getting it to replace the open drum axle. If i dont like the 4:10s cant i change out the ring gear to a 3:42 or 3:73?

Help appreciated thanks.

You have a 700R4 according to you, so I don't see why you'de want to drop down a notch. They're fine.

Re: 4:10s in a driver bad??? or

mine turns 2600 rpm with 275/60's at around 62mph, in the 1/4 mile i'am at 4500 rpm
in 3rd gear at 85 mph, i leave it in 3rd in the 1/4 mile so i can't give you a 4th gear rpm but should be ok at a 100 in 4th

Re: 4:10s in a driver bad??? or

that's alot of gear for a 305 daily driver. whether you can swap to a 3:73 or 3:42 depends on the carrier iirc, I just read a post the other day that stated that 3:42 are about the best ratio for a dd with a 305 and 700r4 .

3.42 stock 26 inch tires 700r4 at 70 is about 2450 rpms

the same with 4.10's will probably be around 2900 rpms. which for a highway driver is too much in my eyes.

Re: 4:10s in a driver bad??? or

With $4 a gallon gas easily on the way, I wouldn't want more than 3.42's!

Too bad there's not a way of flipping a lever and switching from 2.73's to whatever. Could save gas on the highway, but have gears for a bit of fun when desired.

Re: 4:10s in a driver bad??? or

Tires size makes a difference as it effectivly changes your rear gear ratio compared to stock config.

Why trucks with hugh tires have such low gears.
have a 2:73 rear and big tires like that and it won't go anywhere.

sames goes the other way, got granny gears and run tires smaller then stock raises it. [not done often though I do. stock on my Buick is 225/70, I run 225/60, doesn't sound like much but much better take off, though the 70s had more pep above 100, but I don't do high speed runs often.]
