1986 vs 1987 trans difference...

Does anybody know if theres any difference beetwen this two cars Transmisions?

1986 Sports Coupe 305 Carb w/AT

1987 Z28 5.0 TPI w/AT

I have both cars but the Z28 wouldnt go out again cause it was totalled...

Im replacing lot of parts from the Z28 to the Sports coupe but i dont know if i will earn something special if i swap the transmisions...

It might have a more performance calibrated valvebody.
I'd keep it as a spare.

Re: 1986 vs 1987 trans difference...

No difference - UNLESS the 1987 is a late year production transmission - there were changes in late 1987 internally that made post 1987 trannies stronger/better. There's a write up on the trannies in the tech articles I believe.

Oops - FAQ section - my bad ... https://www.thirdgen.org/replace-700...c-transmission

Re: 1986 vs 1987 trans difference...

The diference between the 1986 and 1987 is night and day. The early 1987's used the type one valve body (the same as 1986) and the late 1987 and up units used the second design valve body. The internals were much different from 1986 to the 1987's and later, besides the auxillary valve body. The ATSG book should show the differences.
