Re: how to remove rear end?? need help please

Support body on jackstands/big blocks (spare wheels & tires found in the junkyard are good for "jackstands") with the tires just touching the ground. Spare wheels/tires (laying on their side) are more stable than jackstands & if you use real jackstands, you'll need them or something to hold the car up while you pull your jackstands out anyways

Unbolt the e-brake cable at the Y connection under the car in tranny tunnel

Unbolt rubber brake (or just cut the rubber line) line before the y-connection on the axle

Unbolt the shocks from the axle end

Unbolt the LCAs at the axle end

Either jack the body up even higher now, to clear the tires or support the rear end while taking the wheels/tires off & lower it to clear under the rear bumper

Proceed to pull the axle back. The rear springs will have fallen out if you jacked the car up high enough, or be very loose & can be pulled/wedged out

Most likely you'll be buying just the rear end, so you can take the wheels/tires off at this point (or after you roll it to the back of your truck, to load into your truck. If it currently has none, grab 2 that will fit & temporarily use them as described above.

Did I overlook anything??

DOH! I did overlook something. The swaybar!

Easiest way to get it loose is to pull the nut off the endlinks & leave it attached to the rear end. If you can get it without the extra cost? Go for it.

If your going from drums to disc, you could the proportioning valve. Some people do (they think the difference in line pressure warrants swapping it out too), some don't.

You could see about grabbing a 98+ disc rear instead. Bigger/better brakes & the stock 16's will end up virtually even with the fender lip. So they'll SET out, but not STICK out. They'd still be under the fenders.

If you have 15s? I'm not exactly sure of the bs on those wheels & where they would end up. I've only had 16" wheeled 3rd gens.

Yes the prop valve is different, but that is it.

Some people change them, some don't. Comes down to personal preference really.

For best brake performance, use the correct combination valve. The bias increases between the three types:

disc/drum
disc/disc
disc/1LE

The following 10-bolt FAQ will provide info on master, combination valve, parking brake cables, and speedo drive/driven gears.

Re: how to remove rear end?? need help please

cool thanks for responses guys. i went today and dropped that sucker and took it to my friends house for storage. just in case i dont put it on how much would it sell? im not sure what kinda gears they are but i know its a posi for sure. it has disk brakes with brake lines still intact, a sway bar with bushings and bolts, two rs rims with tires, and all bolts i took off. unfortunately i didnt have a chance to take a picture roughly with all parts i got being said how much would something like that go for?
