Broken Slave on T56 install

I've looked for this answer but can't find it. I put a new motor in and installed 93 model t56 in. slid fork into place, buttoned it up. Pushed the clutch and it sounded like the fork jumped over the throwout bearing. Then all the clutch fluid came pouring out. Did I put the clutch in wrong, fork? What the hell happened here. Had this set up for more than 7 yrs now. Dont switch it out much. Thought maybe I was forgetting something? Anybody here from the chattanooga, TN area?

Your slave rod must have slipped off the clutch fork or just installed improperly. The sound probably came when the slave poped, if your lucky the retaining ring popped out with no damage and the slave can be saved.

It was saved but I broke the saftey clip that locks the bolt head on to the fork. Do I have to have this clip in order to use the fork?

Sorry it's been years since I messed with the clutch on the car and can't remember exactly what piece your talking about, maybe someone else can jump in.

Re: Broken Slave on T56 install

In theory the clip on the fork is just to hold the fork in place during assembly...but in practicality I don't know. I'd think the tension between the slave cylinder and the clutch itself would keep the fork in place once it's all together. I guess the only way to find out is to try it.
