Re: dropping 700r4 help

You need to take the torque arm off the rear end and sort of pull and wiggle it out of the clamshell on the trans. The mount itself on the trans will stay there.

Re: dropping 700r4 help

When it's time to reinstall the torque arm into the "clamshell" on the tranny - it's a real PITA, especially with new poly bushings installed. Grease that sucker up well, get it started in the clamshell, and tap it forward with a 5lb sledge into the clamshell from the rear. Took me forever tapping, it's just a tight fit, and the metal wants to not move well against the bushings in the clamshell - but just keep at it. Determination is the best tool in the box!

Re: dropping 700r4 help

Remove the 2 large bolts from the Tourqe Arm to rear and and pull the Tourqe arm from the Tranny Tourqe Arm bushing. I usually re-install the bolts into the T/A and use those to pull on or as a leverage point to pull the tourqe arm from the tranny bushing. You should remove the exhaust hanger from the other side of the tranny, but just leave the T/A busing intact on the tranny tail shaft.

When reinstlaling the Tourqe arm you can usually grease the Tourqe arm and push it back into the bushing - then re-install the 2 large Tourqe Arm to rear end bolts. If it's REALLY tight than the top bolt on the T/A bussing can be lossened a bit to make it easier to get the TA pushed back in place. ( don't forget to re-tighten that top bolt !! )

I find it's easier to get the T/A out of the way rather than leaving it mounted and in the way while dealing with the tranny removal.

P.S. When removing the 2 large bolts at the T/A to rear end,........ the body might need to be raised a little by a jack to gain clearance needed to get the long bolts out.
