transmission noise

I have a 1989 camaro RS 305 5.0L with caburator and just changed out the water pump and radiator. Now heres the problem I notice with i engage the transmission from park to revers its make a clucthing noise and while in revers the engine will shut off it also make a noise engaging in drive as well but dosent shut off.
The carburator sounds like it is idle to high when engine starts an warms up RPM gage reads around 15 RMP.

I dont know were to start I only had the car for three months and I hope the transmission is not failing me now Help.

Re: transmission noise

Did you swap to a carb, or are you calling the TBI unit a carb?

What's the radiator and water pump have to do with anything transmission related?

What is a "clutching" noise - never heard of that before. Do you mean it grinds? Or does it "clunk" into gear?

What is 15 RMP? Do you mean 1500 rpms?
