88 Dash and Wiring into a 91
So I have been swapping pretty much everything from my 88 into my 91 (engine, wiring, dash, etc) and noticed there is no hole for the speedometer cable since the 91 had digital gauges. I figured ok, no problem, I'll just cut a hole problem solved.
Thinking about it more I just realized, since there was no need for a speedometer cable on the 91, will the trans from the 91 have a place to connect my speedometer cable?
Possibly a stupid question that could be easily answered by checking the trans but I am not able to get under the car and see very well right now so please help.
This would help with a lot of head ache later on!
Please help, I need to know soon before I get ready to put the engine in!
Thanks,
Sean

I'm not sure, but I think you have to swap speedo housings on the trans - since the 1991 trans had an electrical connector for the speedo and the 1988 has a cable connector.

change tail housings if you think its a problem. i just change out the sending units. the gears are the same i believe. just make sure you match the gears!

But can I just connect my speedometer cable to my 91 trans? I haven't got a chance to take a good look at it yet.

you can if you swap over the speedo head. the 91 is all electric.... no place to put the cable

Thanks,
Yea I have recently pulled the VSS out of both transmissions to see if they will swap but I will have to pull apart the tail housings and swap some things so since I have never pulled apart a transmission and I have no money to spare on parts that I might end up needing, I am going to just swap the whole transmission from my 88 into my 91. That way I know for sure everything is right and working properly.
