Rear Axle Swap

hey everybody quick question.
i was on hawks third gen parts and i was looking at the third gen rear axle n they have posi rear disc for 82-88 and the have rear disc 1le for 90-92. i was wondering if the 82-88 one will work on my 91 camaro without any problem?

Both fit. The 82-88 is far less desirable because of the Delco-Moraine calipers, which are prone to failure--and, of course, the 10.5" rotors. Furthermore, the appropriate combination valve for that set-up won't fit your 91. There may also be parking brake cable issues if the 91 doesn't have the tunnel-mounted adjustment piece. Is this rear a 9- or 10-bolt?

The so-called 1LE rear is far more desirable because of the alum PBR calipers and the 11.7" rotors. The appropriate 1LE combination valve would be a bolt-in and the parking brake wouldn't be an issue.

Either way, if the gear ratio is different than the one in your car, you'll have to swap drive and/or driven gears in to make the speedo read correctly.
