Automatic shifter

so a few years back the round automatic shift **** broke and i replaced it with a generic shifter. I just got a new transmission put in and the shop says my waranty on it will not be valid untill i put on a button shifter. my only problem is when i took out the old one, i could not see how the button did anything, idk if parts were missing from it or if it just has a button but no device of any kind at the bottom of the shaft. so my question is, how does the button lock actually work?

Re: Automatic shifter

its not the best quality, but its the best i can get for now, im gonna try to take another look at it today and get better pics. btw i went down to the local camaro wrecker and looked at the automatic shifter they had there and it looked identical to mine except for a lever underneath the shaft that locked the mechanism in place until the button was pressed

Re: Automatic shifter

after going to a junkyard and pulling another shifter from a thirdgen, i realized that long ago someone took out a J hook and spring that cause the lock to work. but all is fixed now
