I have a 91 z-28 with a 305 ci, 700R4 with a hight stall converter and a shift kit. About 75% of the time when I am really on the gas the the trans will go to shift into 3rd gear and completely miss. It shifts fine when under normal load and I just replaced the filter and fluid last week. The fluid was still good and I didn't see any pieces in the pan. Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

 

What kit do you have in the trans? BM, Transgo, Can you manualy hold 3rd gear?

It has a B&M Kit in it. I can manually go up through the gears with the same result most of the time (missing 3rd). When it does miss third, i only have to get off the gas and it will drop into gear fine. Once it is in third, I can keep it there as well. I hope that answers your question?

 

Check your tv cable and make sure your cable didn't move a few teeth. I have seen these things wear over time and not hold in the position they should. When you hit WOT they will jump. The TV pressure is what will hold it in 3rd till the governor goes fast enough and moves it to 4th.
