Transmission line thread size?

I've tried a search and didn't find anything. But my question is, I bought a th400 with 6AN fitting in the feed/return holes, now what size are the threads on the stock transmission hard lines that go into the tranny? I basically need a fitting that would connect the two. So basically it would screw onto the thread of the tranny lines and then onto the 6AN fitting of the tranny itself. Any ideas?

Re: Transmission line thread size?

The fittings that going into the transmission itself are normally 1/8" pipe thread. The hard line is normally 5/16" brake line fittings.

Re: Transmission line thread size?

Well I'm bringing this back up.

I removed those -6AN fittings that were in the tranny and tried to screw in the factory tranny hardlines. Must not made a good seal because It was leaking.

I put the -6AN fitting back into the inlet/outlet ports now. Is there a fitting that will adapt from the -6AN to the factory 5/16 hardline threading?

I'm running out of options of what to do because I also will be getting a tranny cooler soon, so I want to route the lines all at once. I was thinking of just getting a -6AN to hose barb fitting and get the push-loc hose to route it. But the hose would be close to the long tube headers

Yea ive ran into that problem. A trans shop should have the small fittings that go into the tranny to use you factory hard lines again. Its wierd how the lines will thread in without them but they wont seal... Must be a failsafe so you dont strip the case.

-6 with pushlock barbs works very well too. Heat shield where needed!! Goodluck

I'll check with trans shop and see if they have that fitting. So the pressure ports on the trans are 1/8NPT or 1/4"? I'm confused on that part as well.

IF i do the barb end, I was also thinking of wrapping the headers where it gets close, but I don't still.

They're just different threads that happen to have the same pitch.

That must be why. But when I screwed the AN fitting back in the tranny it fit all the way in with no problem. Just gotta figure how I could keep my stock hardlines and make it work for the th400

Re: Transmission line thread size?

Anybody else might know what fitting would work for the hardline fitting to the -6AN one?

Re: Transmission line thread size?

You have male -6 AN fittings on the transmission? You can try flaring the ends of the hard lines for tube nuts, but it probably won't line up well. Better would be to cut back the hard lines before flaring, and then use short pieces of hose between the transmission and line.

I'm not 100% sure its -6AN but I believe thats what the guy said when I bought the tranny from him. Its whatever size that fits into the transmission and then a male -6AN on the other side? So I basically need a female end adapter to fit the -6AN, and the other end of the female adapter to fit on the stock tranny hardline one.

Re: Transmission line thread size?

Why not run hose all the way ? No cutting/flaring involved, just have to get the correct fitting, and then hose.

Just to verify the thread size, I would go to a car parts store, buy a bunch of different fittings, including 6AN, then take them home, try them on the transmission, and return those you didn't use.

Question regarding this though since I'm using rubber hose between the radiator/B&M cooler combo, and the transmission, should I put heat insulating/protective sleeve on the hose ? Because it is after all rather close to the exhaust system.
