so I have a 88 IROC 305 with a bad 700r4(3rd and 4th gear out)and am looking at around $300 with another $150+ A WEEK. I'd really like to put a manual in it but am not sure I can afford it. would a t5 handle the torque of it after a few performance parts or would it have to be a tko? what years and engines would the trans need to be from to fit, and what all parts from a camaro would I need? how much does a typical manual conversion cost, and how long does it take?

You might be able to do a very basic used T5 swap for $450. But you certainly won't be able to do a TKO or T56 for that price. The T5 will survive as long as you are nice to it. No slicks, no clutch drops, no powershifting.
