Shifting into third with 700r

I have started having trouble with the trans going into third. After a engine pulling and refreshing, under hard accel once it tries to go to third it seems to drop out completely into a neutral and over revs. Then once I back off and the revs come down it slams into gear and off I go again. This also happens trying to use a passing gear to go around someone. I have checked the usual fluids ok filter ok, thought it was going dry, but nothing seems wrong. I had an idea it might be the TV cable but I tought that should give trouble with all shifts not just third, passing gear. Want to solve this or have a good idea what the trouble is before I just rebuild another to replace it or just need some kind of shift kit to fix it for now.

Re-check the TV cable adjustment. Then again for good measure. Then the other stuff.

When the trans 'neutrals' coming out of second gear, it's usually the 3-4 clutch pack that is worn-out (pretty common failure with some miles on the trans). It might engage / apply at lower engine loads, but probably not for long. Yes, check fluid level and TV cable setting (correct me if I'm wrong, but it's a setting, not really an adjustment), then call one of the trans shops people on the board are using, like Pro Built, and discuss a rebuild / replacement.

Potato potahto. To change a setting you have to adjust something. Setting is where you are. Adjustment is how you go there. Book say adjust.

If this just started happening, the modified TransGo Performance Shift kit with Corvette servo might solve this. DO NOT let it do this anymore, or you will lose the 3-4 clutch pack and have first and second only. If this does not fix it, then you will need to go into the transmission and replace the 3-4 clutch pack at a minimum. Make sure that the TV cable is tight at WOT.

Re: Shifting into third with 700r

I was able to adjust it the other day, took me awhile since my cable doesnt resemble anything you see in any book. Things got better I now have a passing gear but under "hold my Beer and watch this" WOT it is still doing the same thing. So my answer to the problem is to try a shift kit. If this still is happening I will just rebuild the thing and fix it for good. Just dont have the time now so it will have to wait.
